Oliv Blu Brings “The Voice” to Hometown Crowd at Flossmoor Fest

Flossmoor Fest has been a tradition in Flossmoor, Il since 1999. On September 9th, the annual event featured live music, local vendors and all day activities for residents and surrounding areas.

Certainly no stranger to the neighborhood or spotlight—Oliv Blu (no e’s) graced the center stage with an amazing performance for her hometown crowd.

Oliv Blu graduated from the local Homewood-Flossmoor High School (also attended by rapper—Juice Wrld). She’s made a national name for herself by appearing on Season 16 of the highly viewed talent competition—The Voice.

Not only did she pass the audition to become a contestant but she also got a chair turn from Grammy Award Winner—John Legend. Although she didn’t come out as the Season’s victor, her impeccable talent and amazing style has undeniably remained on top.

Blu has described her style in the past as Neo-soul, R&B and Jazz, and she’s been inspired by Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Nancy Wilson, Aretha Franklin — and Ella Fitzgerald’s scat singing.

This was clearly displayed on Saturday as she wowed the crowd by opening with Ms. Badu’s “On and On”, the same song that stunned judges during her audition on The Voice.

Her band accompanied her with lush melodic grooves throughout the set of hit covers, catchy originals and even a dazzling duet with her twin sister Brooke.

The songstress discovered her artistry while collaborating with music collective—Freesole, a group of singers, rappers and producers that she still works with. And its no doubt that this free soul will go on to grace magazine pages and perform on stages across the world.
