Less than a month ago, philanthropist Robert Smith went viral after announcing his plans to pay off the student loan debt for Morehouse’s 2019 graduating class. Now the billionaire entrepreneur has launched an internship program for ethnically underrepresented students.
Smith, who is the CEO of Vista Equity Partners, started Intern X to connect rising sophomores with a 2.8 GPA or higher to STEM-related internship positions in finance, marketing, software, real estate and not-for-profit sectors.
So far, major companies have also jumped on board. Smith has partnered with Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Deloitte, Citi and his own Vista Equity Partners to provide summer internship opportunities to young adults.
According to Intern X’s website, “those selected will receive payment, mentorship, networking opportunities and “robust assignments.” Some employers will also provide relocation and housing assistance.
The program is a branch of Smith’s Fund II Foundation whose mission is to “advance social change and create an enduring American legacy.”
Students interested in participating in InternX can sign up via the student registration form.
