Celebrity Chef José Andrés Offers to Hire Worker Fired for Giving Student ‘Free Lunch’

Bonnie Kimball worked for Fresh Picks, which supplied food to the Mascoma Valley Regional High School in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Kimball was fired on March 28 for providing “free lunch” to a student, worth $8, as there were no funds in his account. Kimball was confident that the student would bring the money in, and it happened—the very next day. Regardless, she was still fired for theft.

Kimball’s plight then went viral, and some of her co-workers quit in protest to support her. Meanwhile, others also raised more than $8,000 via a GoFundMe page in support of the part-time cafeteria worker.

Her situation also caught the attention of celebrity chef, José Andrés. He offered her a job at his non-profit, World Central Kitchen. He tweeted: “The hero is Bonnie Kimball! If she needs a new job we have openings @thinkfoodgroup, if you know her, let her know!”

Chef Andrés has a kind history of offering free hot meals to millions -affected by worldwide disasters such as Hurricane Maria, Hurricane Florence and other unfortunate occurrences. He was also named one of Time magazines 100 most influential people in the worlds for 2018.
